We should cut Jack Fincham some slack for his comments about Dani in that 'secret' recording from the pub

MOST LOVE ISLAND viewers who heard the news of Dani and Jack’s split last week were devastated. They won the competition by a mile, after the public fell in love with the pair of them from early on in the series.
We can only imagine how strange it is to begin a relationship on one of the UK and Ireland’s most popular reality TV shows while in almost complete isolation, before walking out of the Love Island villa into a world where you have no idea what scrutiny and pressure is waiting for you.
The circumstances that Jack and Dani fell for each other under were very different to any circumstances in the real world that a regular couple would get together under. They were with each other almost 24/7, with no jobs, bills or outside influences to worry about. They were essentially on an 8-week-long holiday.
When the show ended, they moved in together and kept a steady stream of Instagram stories and uploads flowing, for their fans to stay up to date with. People had become very invested in their relationship while watching the show, which probably made it very difficult for Jack and Dani to know where they could draw the line once they got out of the villa.
More and more, with social media, the public feel entitled to know everything about their favourite celebrities, and similarly, celebs (especially younger ones who grew up on social media) feel obligated to share every detail of their lives.
Regardless of whatever happened between Jack and Dani that lead to their split, we can’t help but feel bad for both of them. It’s hard enough to break up with someone who you live with and spend every day with, without knowing that there’s a massive following who are incredibly invested in your relationship who are going to be let down or demanding to know what happened.
On Saturday, Jack went to a pub in Essex to spend some time with friends. It’s not clear whether he was recorded by a friend (in which case, he needs to find some new ones ASAP) a Daily Mail journalist/photographer (as there are 42 paparazzi photos from the evening on the Daily Mail’s website), or just some randomer, but in his state of inebriation Jack was sharing details about his relationship which he probably wouldn’t have shared otherwise – especially not to the press.
The 27-year-old is understandably upset at the end of his 7-month-long relationship and like many others who have been in that same position, he has been brought to the pub by his mates for a bit of support. Of course what he said was probably a bit childish or inconsiderate, but the man’s upset. Who knows if he actually feels that way? Most people wouldn’t stand by everything they said in the pub, three days after a breakup.
In fact, most people wouldn’t even remember half of the things they said about their ex in those few days after their last relationship ended. Now, Jack’s words are immortalised on the Daily Mail, and all of the other tabloids that republished the recording and quotes and will undoubtedly cause further stress between him and Dani as they try to remain friends.
Whoever recorded Jack spilling his feelings in Essex over the weekend overstepped a massive boundary. The reality TV show ended when Jack and Dani left the villa, and so did our right to know what they were up to 24/7. Jack signed up for full-time surveillance in the villa, but it should have ended when him and Dani collected their cheque. Publishing the conversation is of benefit to nobody. Not Jack, not Dani, not any of their friends. It’s just a pretty disrespectful way to cash in on somebody’s misfortune.
After publishing the recording, the Daily Mail had the neck to reach out to Jack’s representatives, who said: “It’s been an incredibly difficult and emotional time for Jack and it’s really sad that at this time someone decides to covertly record him trying to have a quiet conversation with a friend.”
